Denzil & Rossella Scerri De Carlo

Denzil and Rossella Scerri De Carlo's journey in the world of ballroom dance is a tale of passion, dedication, and resilience. Their story began in 2002 when they started dancing together, quickly rising to prominence in the Maltese dance community. Their exceptional talent and chemistry on the dance floor earned them the title of Maltese National Ballroom Champions.

In 2007, Denzil and Rossella decided to put their flourishing dance career on hold as they embarked on a new chapter in their lives: marriage. Their love and partnership off the dance floor blossomed, and they welcomed two sons into their family in 2008 and 2011. Despite the demands of parenthood, their passion for dance never waned. 
 In the years following the birth of their sons, Denzil and Rossella made a triumphant return to the dance scene. Fuelled by their shared vision and commitment to the art of dance, they decided to establish their own dance academy. In a few years, "Steps Ahead" was born, with a simple yet profound goal: to develop their students to an international level, enabling them to compete overseas and elevate the standard of dancing in Malta.
 Over the past 13 years, Steps Ahead has become a beacon of excellence in the dance community. Under the guidance of Denzil and Rossella, the academy has achieved remarkable success in both the medallist and open circuits. Among its most notable accolades are winner at the European Championship in the Juvenile category, finalists in both the juvenile and junior section at the renowned Blackpool Dance Festival and having students making it into the final at the World Championships in Assen too.
 The academy's achievements are a testament to Denzil and Rossella's unwavering dedication to their craft and their students. They have not only cultivated a high standard of dance in Malta but have also fostered a sense of pride and accomplishment within their community. Through their tireless efforts, they have ensured that Malta is represented with distinction on the international dance stage.

Instructors

Lisa McGuinness

Lisa started to dance at the tender age of 6. She studied dance in England in various schools around the Midlands area and has participated in both Medallist and Open competitions throughout her dance career. She turned professional in 2014 and moved to Malta in the same year. Shortly after arriving on the Island she teamed up with Denzil and Rossella and has been part of Steps Ahead ever since. Lisa works closely with our Competitive Kids Classes and also with our Adult Social Classes. She is an avid choreographer and oversees many of our showcases both in house and for outside events. Lisa continues to train towards further Professional Qualifications to add to her dance resume.
